Oxidized rapeseed oil - an ancient and distant lubrication story

What is oxidized rapeseed oil?

Oxidized rapeseed oil, also known as oxidized polymerized rapeseed oil, blown rapeseed oil, etc., is a stable high molecular polymer generated by polymerization reaction of natural rapeseed oil under certain temperature, pressure and catalyst. It is a renewable green lubricant with good lubricity, adhesion and chemical stability. Its acid value, color and viscosity are very stable during normal use.

Main characteristics of oxidized rapeseed oil

Oxidized rapeseed oil is a chemically modified natural rapeseed oil. After high-temperature oxidation and polymerization, it has the following main characteristics:

1. High viscosity and lubricity

After polymerization, the molecular weight of oxidized rapeseed oil increases and the viscosity increases significantly. This high viscosity property enables it to form a thicker oil film, thereby providing excellent lubrication performance, especially suitable for metal processing and mechanical lubrication.

2. Chemical stability

Oxidized rapeseed oil has good chemical stability after deep polymerization under high temperature and oxidative conditions. Its acid value, color and viscosity can remain stable during normal use and are not easily affected by external factors.

3. Adhesion

Oxidized rapeseed oil has strong adhesion to metal surfaces and can form a protective film on the metal surface to prevent metal rust and corrosion.

4. Biodegradability

Oxidized rapeseed oil is derived from natural vegetable oil and still maintains good biodegradability after modification. It is easy to clean after use and will not cause lasting pollution to the environment, meeting environmental protection requirements.

5. Thermal stability

Oxidized rapeseed oil shows good thermal stability under high temperature conditions and is suitable for high-temperature industrial applications.

6. Antioxidation

Oxidized rapeseed oil will form some antioxidant compounds during the oxidation process, which further enhances its antioxidant capacity and prolongs its service life.

7. Customized viscosity

By controlling the degree of oxidative polymerization, oxidized rapeseed oil can produce products with different viscosity grades to meet the needs of different industrial applications.

An ancient and distant lubrication story

As early as the Spring and Autumn Period more than 2,000 years ago, our ancestors invented the use of rapeseed oil squeezed out and rapeseed oil mixed with lime milk to make ointment applied to the axles of the carriages to improve the lubrication of the axles and increase the speed and distance of the carriages in order to make the carriages travel faster, more flexible and safer during marches, battles and visits to relatives and friends. The Book of Songs "Bei Feng. Spring Water" "Carrying fat and carrying boats, returning the carriage to say that it is moving forward, and it will arrive in Wei quickly, without any flaws or harm." It tells the story of a young woman who married far away in Wei State and wanted to return to her parents' home, Wei State. Applying rapeseed oil ointment to the axles of the carriages can speed up the return to her parents' home, and the carriages coated with ointment will not break down along the way.

For thousands of years, our ancestors have been using rapeseed oil as a lubricant on agricultural machinery and transportation tools.

In the 1960s and 1970s, with the rise of my country's industry, in order to improve the stability and lubricity of rapeseed oil, researchers invented the method of passing oxygen into rapeseed oil under high temperature and high pressure for oxidation reaction, chemically reacting the unsaturated bonds in rapeseed oil, splitting the unsaturated bonds and repolymerizing them, thereby forming a polymer of macromolecular chains, greatly increasing the adhesion, lubricity and service life of rapeseed oil. This makes rapeseed oil a more effective lubricant and oily additive. It is directly used in large quantities by factories for gear oil, guide rail oil, grinding oil, bearing oil, etc. It improves the lubricity, adhesion and service life of various lubricants.

In the 1980s, with the rapid development of my country's metal processing industry, oxidized rapeseed oil was directly used in metal stamping oil, tapping oil, rolling oil and other fields.

Oxidized rapeseed oil and rust inhibitors, emulsifiers and other functional agents are made into high-quality fully synthetic cutting fluids, saponified dissolving oils and various emulsified oils. It was widely used by the authoritative institution at the time, the Shanghai Petroleum Commodity Application Research Institute.

Now oxidized rapeseed oil is favored by foreign companies as an environmentally friendly, biosoluble lubricant raw material.

Application of Oxidized Rapeseed Oil

Oxidized rapeseed oil has a wide range of specific industrial applications, mainly including the following areas:

1. Metal processing industry

Oxidized rapeseed oil is widely used in various special oils in metal processing, such as stamping oil, drawing oil, cutting oil, anti-rust oil, guide rail oil and spindle oil. It can enhance the strength of the oil film, improve lubricity and metal protection, reduce tool wear, and improve processing accuracy.

2. Lubricating oil field

Oxidized rapeseed oil can be used to produce a variety of lubricating oils, such as guide rail oil, spindle oil, grinding oil, gear oil, etc., which can effectively protect the mechanical surface and reduce friction and wear.

3. Water-based product production

It can be used to manufacture water-based saponified oil, extreme pressure emulsified oil, anti-rust emulsified oil and wire cutting emulsified oil and other products, which have important applications in metal processing and surface treatment.

4. Fuel oil additives

Oxidized rapeseed oil can also be used as an additive for fuel oil clean energy-saving friction reducer, which can improve the combustion efficiency of fuel, reduce friction, reduce emissions, and meet environmental protection requirements.

5. Chemical raw materials

Oxidized rapeseed oil is an important raw material for the production of alkyd resins and inks, which can improve the performance and stability of products.

6. Other applications

Oxidized rapeseed oil can also be used to produce cold rolling oil, making the processed plates bright as new, and can also be used as a high-strength release agent.
